Operate & maintain Mass Spectrometers (Micromass TOFSPEC 2E & Finnigan LCQ Duo); interpret & report analytical findings; carry out procedures related to Protein Chemistry; perform ligand binding assays & immunochemical assays; develop biochemical protocols; communicate with staff, students & faculty in service-related analyses; process findings for publication; perform service work, equipment maintenance & participate in basic science programs involving protein structure & function studies.


BA/BS in Chemistry or Biology or equivalent required, Master's degree in Biochemistry or related field strongly preferred.

1 to 3 years of laboratory experience that could be adaptable to all aspects of protein characterization including mass spectrometry & automated peptide synthesis.

Previous experience in all aspects of protein microsequencing: sample preparation which includes HPLC separations & electrophoretic transfer techniques, operation of either automated protein sequencers or peptide synthesizers & data analysis; strong communication skills

Ability to participate in peptide & protein purification, immunoanalysis, use of computer databases, instrumental analysis involving Edman sequencers & mass spectrometers at levels beyond operation such as maintenance & troubleshooting.
